Interviewee: PJ Murray (PM)

 

CD: Do you remember you first day at school PJ?

PM: What?

CD: Can you remember you first day at school?

PM: At school?

CD: Yeah, when you were a young lad. Do you remember going to school when you were a young lad?

PM: I did

CD: Did you like school?

PM: I got bet

CD: Did you?

PM: I did, with a stick across the back, Clare and across the two legs from Master Dowd

CD: Is that right?

PM: My sister Anne, she got it too

CD: I think everybody got it, did they?

PM: He used to put my out in the corner

CD: Right

Master Dowd

CD: And when you were in school, what did you have to eat for lunch, did you bring anything with you?

PM: Bread and milk, Clare

CD: Right. And what would you have the milk in?

PM: In a bottle

CD: Right. And would it be warm milk or would it be cold?

PM: Hot milk… it would be cold milk

CD: Right. And did you have a cow at home?

PM: I had

CD: I were you able to milk it?

PM: I was

CD: And how many cows did you have?

PM: Two or three cows

CD: And that kept you going for the milk?

PM: It did, Clare
