St. Foila, founder of this church was described by Mons. J Fahey as follows; “ We are assured that her reputation for sanctity during her lifetime was widespread, and attested by the performance of many miracles ”. Such was the fame of St. Foila that her tomb in her church became a place of pilgrimage. The church continued in use up to the 19 th century when a ‘hedge school’ operated in it.

I very much enjoyed visiting this church 2 years ago. Although in ruin, my great grandmother was baptized there, so for me, it was such a joy to visit.
