Interviewer: Clare Doyle (CD)
Interviewee: Muirdeach Maher (MM)
CD: Muirdeach, do you remember your first day at school?
MM: I do, I used to go to Balla, before that I used to go to Mayo Abbey, a lot further away and then … I used to get a lift up with Mr. Molloy
CD: So, it was too far to walk, was it?
MM: Too far, I used to get a lift up to the school. It was hard to get a lift home, I couldn’t get anyone. I knew someone, Peter Paul who used to bring us home but since that he has passed away. He was a very nice man
CD: Yeah. And do you remember when you were in school, what you used to bring for your lunch to eat?
MM: I think sandwiches, yeah, I don’t know, maybe it was
CD: And you’d have your dinner then when you got home? Your mother would have the diner ready, would she?
MM: And my day, I used to call him…
CD: And did you have a bit of a farm or anything?
MM: Yeah, we did at the back of the house
