This video introduces an exciting new heritage initiative that has just begun in County Galway. Funded by Galway County Council and the Heritage Council, the project is an audit of the holy wells of the County. The aim is to collect and collate information about each and every holy well in the County, so that it can then be shared for use in community projects and recorded for future generations. The data collected will include location, infrastructure, physical condition, access, protection status, ownership, archaeology, architecture, biodiversity, traditions, folklore, oral heritage and customs associated with and connected to the holy wells. This information will be shared through a map based platform on the Galway Community Heritage website https://field-monuments.galwaycommunityheritage.org/ Local communities and interested individuals are being asked to send in information about their local wells to the email address [email protected].
