Ha-Ha Wall
Ballyglunin
Paul Connolly
These photos show a ‘Ha-Ha Wall’ within the former Brooklodge demesne in Ballyglunin, these were constructed by the gentry to stop cattle accessing certain parts of their demesne without blocking the view of the house from the road or avenue. They dug a trench with a slope on one side, they then built a sunken wall on the other side, from the bottom of the trench to ground level thus preventing the movement of livestock into the area behind. Ingenious piece of engineering!!
