Island Eddy Castle was once an imposing landmark for seafarers in Galway Bay but is now reduced to a stump of masonry on the foreshore at the east end of the island. However, numerous fragments of its masonry are preserved in the walls of the ruined village including the old shed in the background. For a detailed account of the castle see P. Gosling and M. Fitzpatrick’s paper in LOST & FOUND III edited by J. Fenwick (Wordwell Books, Dublin, 2018).
