School Visits – Information for Teachers and Schools

Q: Do you have COVID-19 protocols in place?

Q: What time does the Battle of Aughrim Visitor Centre open?
A: The Battle of Aughrim Visitor Centre is open seasonally May to September each year.

The Battle of Aughrim Visitor Centre is open on the following days:

Tuesday to Saturday: Open from 10.30am until 4.30pm. Last admission 4pm.
Sunday: Open from 2.00pm to 5.00pm. Last admission 4.30pm.

The centre is closed on Mondays.

Q: How can I pay for school tours?
A: Payment can either be made in advance of your visit or upon arrival at admissions. Please note that no groups can be admitted without full payment being received.
We accept the following:

  • Cash
  • Cheque — made payable to ‘Battle of Aughrim Visitor Centre’
  • Credit Card — you can pay using your credit card via our secure SumUp technology.

Q: What’s included in a school tour?
A: School tours include a guided tour of the interpretative room, watching the video of the Battle of Aughrim, examining the battlefield diorama and acting as Saint Ruth to arrange your battle troops in the centre’s board game. A self-guided map can be provided to your school if you would like to undertake a tour of the battle sites. The centre provides a colouring /activity book for each student, which can be completed at the centre on the day of your visit or following the visit at school/home.

Q: What happens if the weather is bad?
A: The Battle of Aughrim Visitor Centre is fully covered; however, if your school wishes to undertake a self-guided tour of the battlefield sites, we would advise you to have a change of clothes on your bus in case of bad weather.

Q: Can teachers leave their groups with the Battle of Aughrim Visitor Centre Tour Guide?
A: No. Teachers must remain with their groups at all times. School groups remain the responsibility of their teachers while they are visiting.

Q: Are there are toilet facilities available?
A: Yes, toilet facilities are available in the centre.

Q: Is there wheelchair access?
A: The Visitor Centre is accessible by wheelchair and has accessible toilet facilities on site.
