Barn Owls

Galway County Council

Creative Ireland

The Barn Owl holds a special allure for Irish people and have been long revered in our history and culture. As one of our most iconic birds and a sentinel species for the health of our environment there is a unique opportunity to harness this interest to deliver widescale biodiversity benefits through conservation and education focused on Barn Owls. We will develop bilingual education materials and online resources to engage with a young audience and promote active learning and engagement with our local environment, we will host a live nest camera or video to showcase the secret lives of Barn Owls (dependent on Covid-19 restrictions) and provide an outlet for citizen science and community-led conservation initiatives to deliver benefits to Barn Owls and biodiversity in Galway.
