Your Galway Genealogy

The records of our family history tell us about our ancestors and give us an insight into their lives. Every family is different but the process of finding out more about them is the same and involves a focus on people, place and time. This series of tutorials will help you to understand the record sources available and how to interpret them. They range from the Tithe Applotment Books, Griffith’s Valuation, Church parish records, births, deaths, and marriages and records of graveyard headstone transcriptions. Starting with what you know about yourself, you can work back to learn more about earlier generations. The records can give you information about your homeplace but it’s the people who are at the centre of the story. What kind of story can you tell?
