Bullaunagh is situated in the northeastern region of Kilthomas, in the barony of Kiltartan.
O’Donovan’s Field Name Books recorded the following other spellings used: Bullánach, Bullaanagh, and Bullanaugh. All of the land was owned by Mr. Nolan, about three quarters of the land was recorded to be covered with brushwood and rocks. There are 2 Danish forts, one of which contains a cave.
