Bullaunagh

Ballánach

Bullaunagh is situated in the northeastern region of Kilthomas, in the barony of Kiltartan.

O’Donovan’s Field Name Books recorded the following other spellings used: Bullánach, Bullaanagh, and Bullanaugh. All of the land was owned by Mr. Nolan, about three quarters of the land was recorded to be covered with brushwood and rocks. There are 2 Danish forts, one of which contains a cave.

The Down Survey Map under ‘Bullaunagh’ listed Ulick Carragh Bourke (Catholic), as the landowner in 1641 (pre-Cromwell) and Duke of York (Protestant) in1670 (post Cromwell). There were no specifications on profitable or unprofitable land.
