Loughrea is a post, market and fair town in the county of Galway. The town is pleasantly situated on the banks of a beautiful lake…this lake is said to be supplied by seven district springs, called the seven sisters. There are no manufactories but an extensive market is held on Thursday and another for meat on Saturday. The fairs are on the 11th of February, the 25th and 26th of May the 20th of August and 5th of December.

Post Office

Church Lane, Post Master Mr Thomas Clutterbuck. The mail is ent to Dublin daily at two in the afternoon by the Dublin mail and return daily at twelve. The Gort and Ennis mails arrive at eleven and are dispatched at a quarter past twelve by horse. Office hours from seven in the morning till eleven at night.
