St Martin’s Day Customs

Laurencetown, Co. Galway

It is the custom to kill a cock for St. Martin’s day and to shake the blood in the four corners of the house. People never thresh on the first half of St Martin’s day as he was supposed to have been killed by a threshing engine. The feast falls on November 11.
