This townland contains a. r. p. (9 acres and 26 perches) about 1/3 of which is bog, the remainder under a good state of cultivation. The Grand Canal from Dublin to Ballinasloe runs through it. Houses and roads in good repair. It is the property of the Earl Clancarty. Held by deed for ever. Pays £26.2.4½ including Town Parks, County Cess.

 

Situation:

Is situated in the S. East extremity of the parish, bounded by Moher and Dunlo in this parish by Kellysgrove and Graigawoneen in the parish of Clontooskert and Cloonmacnoon barony, by the river Suck which separates it from Ballinasloe Town Parks, Port [unable to read]. Suckfield and Tubrush in the parish of Creagh, Barony of Moycarne and Co. Roscommon.

Census of Ireland (1821- 1911)

The first full population census of Ireland was taken in 1821 and the first four Irish censuses were arranged by county, barony, civil parish and townland.

Plot 35: Simeon Sharpe paid £3 15s for 10 acres and 17 perches of land and £1 for a herd’s house.

Plot 36: The Earl of Clancarty had in fee (for himself) 200 acres and 6 perches of bog that had an annual ratable valuation of £3.

Plot 37: John McMullen, sec. Grand Canal Co. had in fee (for himself) 493 linear perches of canal and banks with a total area of 28 acres and 31 perches that had an annual ratable value of £73 19s.

Plot 37a: Denis Coffey leased a house for 15s from John McMullen, sec. Grand Canal Co.

Plot 37b: Patrick Prendergast leased a house and a garden of 1 rood and 32 perches from John McMullen, sec. Grand Canal Co. for 5s for the garden and 15s for the house.

Plot 37c: Edward Dooley leased a house with a garden of 29 perches from John McMullen, sec. Grand Canal Co. for 2s for the garden and 6s for the house.

Plot 37d: William Gaddis paid 5s for a house to John McMullen, sec. Grand Canal Co.

Plot 38: Geoffrey Prendergast leased a house, offices and gate lodge with 17 acres, 1 rood and 15 perches of land from John H. Graig for £6 for the land and £10 for the buildings.

Plot 39: This plot consisted of the River Suck that had an area of 21 acres, 1 rood and 6 perches.
