Ballylouge

 

Ballylouge is situated in the civil parish of Killoran, barony of Longford, Co Galway. It is bounded on the north by Lurragan Great, Lurragan Small and Park in the parish of Killallaghlan, in the barony of Cloonmacknoon, on the east by Coxtown, in the parish of Kiltormer, on the west by Low Park and on the south by Killoran.

 

O’Donovan’s Field Name Books gives other name spellings for this town land: Bail’ui Lughog, Ballyloogue, Ballylooogue, Ballyloooge and Ballyluoge.

 

Downs Survey map gives no information on who owned this land in the 1600s.

 

Census 1901

 

There were 18 houses in Ballylouge in 1901. There were 110 residents in total: 57 were male and 53 were female. All residents were Roman Catholic. They were born in Co Galway.
