Cloonlahan Geoghegan

 

Clonnlahan Geoghegan is situated in the civil parish of Killoran, in the Barony of Longford, County Galway. It is bounded on the north by Ballooly Eyre and part of Ballooly McDermott, on the west by part of Clonlahan Eyre and Derreenboy, on the south by Addergoole, in the parish of Abbeygormican and on the east by Glebe and Attykee in the parish of Kiltormer.

 

O’Donovan’s Field Name Books provides other name spellings for this townland: Cluain leathan, Clonlahan Geoghegan and Clonlogane.

 

Down Survey map gives no information on who owned this townland in the 1600s.

 

Census 1901

 

There were 12 houses in Cloonlahan Geoghegan in 1901. There were 55 residant in total: 33 males and 22 were females. All occupants were Roman Catholic. They were born in Co Galway. The heads of the households were Patrick McHugh, John Treacy, Pat McHugh, Peter Larkin, Patrick Leahy, Patrick Connar, John Leahy, Margaret Murry, Bridget Trecy, Thomas Gormally, Honour Coghlan and James Lyons. The census taken on the 9th of April 1901 showed the houses were built as private dwellings. The walls were built of stone, brick or concrete. The roofs were made of perishable material except for James Lyons house. His roof was made of slate, iron or tiles.
