A Story About a Churning

Cushatrough, Co. Galway

One night a boat was going over the Stream and the men of the boat heard a churn making within in a cove. One of the men asked for a drink of buttermilk, then the men started pulling hard, and stones were thrown at the boat. When the boat was landing beyond Davis is a barrel came rolling over the shore roaring. One of the men came out of the boat and told the barrel to go to hell and the barrel disappeared and was not seen any more.
