The Fisherman and the Fairy Ship

Clifden, Co. Galway

One time there lived in the district of Clifden two fishermen. One night they went out fishing and it was very fine. When they were very long fishing they saw a big ship and it was full of lights. They saw no one on it and they thought it might be a fairy one. when they were about to turn away they heard a voice saying “Go home or you will get drowned here”. they did not heed this voice but they turned away from it. when they were a while fishing after that, a storm arose. the waves rose over the boat and it was going up and down. After a while when they were nearly lost they saw the fairy ship again. They heard a voice again from the ship “You did not heed the good voice you got first so you can perish now”. So, they did.
