Every farmer has potatoes

Co. Galway, Ireland

The average amount grown is about 1 acre. Some farmers put the seed in the alley of the drill before the manure goes in. Wooden ploughs were used in this district some years ago. They were long on the top and long underneath. Spades were also used. Pat Dooley from Cappataggle used to make spades. At harvest time both men and women work to pit the potatoes. In this district, the Kerrs Pink is the most common potato.
