Situation: The standard name for the townland was Sroove with the Irish form being Sruf. Alternative names would include Shrove Clerk of the Peace for the town of Galway, Shroofe 1 qr. County Book. The townland was at the southeastern part of the parish. It was bordered by Gurtarooa townland on the northeast and west and Ardrahan Parish on the south.

Description:

Down survey

The name of the townland on the survey was Shrieve. The owner in 1641 was Moyler McShane Mclonack Bourke who was catholic. In 1670 the owner was Sir Henry Waddington who was protestant. There was 211 acres of profitable land and 211 acres of forfeited land.

O’Donovan’s survey

The proprietor was J. Bodkin of Annagh with the agent being Dennis Bodkin of Annagh. It was held as a sheep walk by a tenant at sixteen shillings per acre on lease. On the northwest boundary was a road, and in the west a crossroad known as Loughincullane Cross.

Griffith Valuation

Map reference one was Thomas Tully. The land was 76 acres, 2 roods and 13 perches. This was worth 38 pounds and the landlord was Robert Bodkin.
