Ballybrian lies in the east of the parish of Killallaghtan, barony of Cloomacnoon Co Galway. It is bounded by Lissawolaun and Cloonkeen East. It is also bounded by Hardwood, Bally of Mahon and Ballynahowna in the parish of Aughrim. It shares a border with Ballyhoolaghan, Ballynahown, Gortmore and Lissawullaun.
O’Donovan’s Fields Name Books give other name spellings of this townland: Ballybrien, Ballebrin, Ballabrien and Ballybryan.
Down Survey Map show this townland under the name ‘Tormore’was owned by Anthony Brabson, a protestant in 1641. It was owned by the Earl of Ormond, a protestant in 1670. It states there were 6 plantation acres of unprofitable land. There were 69 plantation acres of profitable land and 69 plantation acres of forfeited land.
