Toormore is situated in the south west of the civil parish of Killallaghtan barony of Killconnell Co Galway. It is bounded by Ballymabilla, Gurtnahoon and Dooaree townlands in the said barony. It lies about 4 miles south west of Killconnel.
O’Donovan’s field name books give these other spellings of this townland: Turmore and Tuomore.
Down Survey map show this townland under the name Derryhewne was owned by Daniell McShane O’Madden, (Catholic) in 1641. It was owned by Richard Butler, Earl of Arran, (Protestant) in 1670.
Patrick Dolan (32) was a farmer. He was married to Sarah (35). They could read and write. His mother in law Sarah Connor (78) was a widow. She could read only. They were Roman Catholic. They were born in Co Galway. They lived in a 2nd class house with 4 rooms, 3 front windows and 5 outhouses. The census taken on the 9th of April 1901 show the house was built as a private dwelling. The walls were built with stone, brick or concrete. The roof was made with perishable material. Patrick Dolan owned the land the house was situated on.
The census gives no information on who lived in this townland in 1911.
