Park is situated in the south east of the civil parish of Killallaghtan barony of Clonmacnowen Co Galway. It is bounded by Lurragan Small, Cloonkeen West, Cooltymurraghty and Ballyturin townlands in this parish and by Ballybovogue in the parish of Killoran all in the barony of Cloonmacnoon.

 

O’Donovan’s Field Names Book give other spellings of this townland: Cloch na Pairce and Parke.

 

Down Survey Map show this townland was owned by Anthony Brabson, (Protestant) in 1641. It was owned by John Donnellan, (Catholic) in 1670. It states there were 17 plantation acres of unprofitable land, 73 plantation acres of profitable land and 73 plantation acres of forfeited land.

 

Census 1901

 

There were 6 houses in Park in 1901. There were 26 residents in total:13 were male and 13 were female. All occupants were Roman Catholic. They were born in Co Galway. The heads of the household were: William O’Flaherty, Anne Flaherty, John Gennings, Michael Dolan, Martin Cormican and Mary Monahan. The census taken on the 12th of April 1901 show the houses were built as private dwellings. The walls were built with stone, brick or concrete. The house roofs were made with perishable material.

 

William O’Flaherty (52) was a farmer. He was married to Maria (45). They had 5 children. Michael (23), James (21) and Mary Anne (20) were single. William (14) and Margt M (9) were scholars. Park Donlan (57) was single. He was recorded as a farm servant. The entire household could read and write. They lived in a 2nd class house with 3 rooms, 3 front windows and 6 outhouses. William Flaherty owned the land the house was situated on

 

Anne Flaherty (87) was a farmer. Anne and her daughter Margaret Jennings 60 were both widows. They could not read. They could speak Irish and English. They lived in a 2nd class house with 3 rooms, 3 front windows and 1 outhouse. Anne Flaherty owned the land the house was situated on

 

John Gennings (47) was a farmer. He was married to Kate (35). They had 4 children. John (7) and Kate (5) were scholars. Doro was 3 years old and Edward was 1-year-old. John (47) could read. Kate (35) could read and write. The rest of the family could not read. They lived in a 3rd class house with 2 rooms, 2 front windows and 2 outhouses. John Gennings owned the land the house was situated on.

 

Michael Dolan (35) was a farmer. He was married to Hanoria (35). Their children Mary (5) and Kate (3) could not read. Michael could read. Hanoria could read and write. They lived in a 2nd class house with 3 rooms, 3 front windows and 2 outhouses. Michael Dolan owned the land the house was situated on

Martin Cormican (70) was a farmer. He was a widower. He could speak Irish and English. His son Thomas (31) and servant Michael Corcoran (16) were single. The entire household could read and write. They lived in a 2nd class house with 4 rooms, 3 front windows and 4 outhouses. Martin Cormican owned the land the house was situated on.

 

Mary Monahan (50) was a widow. She was a farmer. She could not read. Her children Martin (29) and Mary A (24) were single. They could read and write. They lived in a 2nd class house with 3 rooms, 3 front windows and 5 outhouses. Mary Monaghan owned the land the house was situated on.

 

Census 1911

Mary Monaghan owned the land the house was situated on.

 

Michael Dolan (46) was a farmer. He was married for 16 years to Hanoria (49). They had 3 children with 2 living in 1911. Mary (15) and Kate (13) were scholars. The entire family could read and write. They lived in a 2nd class house with 3 rooms and 3 front windows. There were 5 outhouses: 1 stable, 1 cow house, 1 piggery, 1 fowl house and 1 barn. Michael Dolan owned the land the house was situated on.

 

Thomas Cornican (44) was a farmer. He was married for 9 years to Bridget (36). They had 6 children with 4 living in 1911. Martin Joseph (6) was a scholar. Patrick (4), Tessie (3) and John (2) could not read. Martin Joseph could read only. The rest of the household could read and write. Thomas’s unmarried brother Martin (42) was a farmer. Their niece Mary Ellen McKeigue (14) was a scholar. They lived in a 2nd class house with 3 rooms and 3 front windows. There were 13 outhouses: 1 stable, 1 cow house, 1 calf house, 2 piggeries, 2 fowl houses, 1 boiling house, 1 barn and 4 sheds. Thomas Cormican owned the land the house was situated on.

 

William Flaherty (63) was a farmer. He was married for 37 years to Maria (60). They could speak Irish and English. They had 7 children with 5 living in 1911. Recorded were 2 unmarried children: Margaret (20) and Willie (24). Pat Donlan (69) was single. He was recorded as a farm servant. The entire household could read and write. They lived in a 2nd class house with 5 rooms and 4 front windows. There were 8 outhouses: 1 stable, 1 cow house, 1 calf house, 1 piggery, 1 fowl house, 1 barn and 1 shed. William Flaherty owned the land the house was situated on.

 

John Jennings (60) was a farmer. He was married for 20 years to Kate (45). They had 6 children with 5 living in 1911. Recorded were 4 unmarried children: John (18), Dorah (14), Edward (11) and Bridget (3). John (18), Dorah and Edward could read and write. The rest of the family could not read or write. They lived in a 3rd class house with 3 rooms and 2 front windows. There were 2 outhouses: 1 stable and 1 shed. John Jennings owned the land the house was situated on.
