Cooltymurraghy is situated in the civil parish of Killallaghtan barony of Clonmacnowen Co Galway. It is situated in the east of the parish. It is bounded by Cloonkeeen East, Lissawolaun, Cartron, Ballyturrin and Park.

 

O’Donovan’s Field Name Books give other spellings of this townland: Cul Tighe Mhurcadha, Cultemoraghty and Cooltymurough.

 

Down Survey map show this townland under the name ‘Clonekellis’ was owned by Teige oge Kelly of Aghrim, (Catholic) in 1641. It was owned by the Earl of Ormond, (Protestant) in 1670. It states there were 109 plantation acres of unprofitable land, 216 plantation acres of profitable land and 216 plantation acres of forfeited land.

 

The census gives no information on who lived in this townland in 1901 and 1911.
