Gorteenawillin lies in the south east of the civil parish of Killallaghtan barony of Kilconnell Co Galway.  It is bounded by Chelsea in the said barony and by Tooreenard, Killallaghtan and Lurragan Great in the barony of Cloonmacnoon in this parish and by Lowpark and Poppyhill in the parish of Killoran and barony of Longford.
